Alhamdulillah, the Muslim community in Madeira has been blessed with continuous growth over the years, now counting around 3,000 brothers and sisters. Our current space has been a true refuge of faith and unity, bringing hearts together, strengthening souls, and witnessing the beauty of Islam in people’s lives.
Here, Madeiran locals have embraced Islam, families have united in marriage, and generations have found a spiritual home filled with peace and blessings.
Every moment spent in this place reminds us of how Allah unites hearts and guides those who seek His light.
With the growth of the community and the new generations, we now feel the need for a larger space, built from the ground up, to serve as a religious, educational, and social center for everyone.
The current space cannot accommodate all the worshippers, especially during Jummah prayers and religious festivals.
The current mosque is not open for all the daily prayers, making it difficult for worshippers to maintain a regular practice of their faith.
Children and adults do not have a proper place to learn to recite and study the Qur’an.
There is a lack of structured teaching of Portuguese and Arabic, which is essential for adapting to the local language and for a better understanding of the Qur’an and the religion.
There are no adequate areas for children or women, nor space for community activities.
The mosque lacks the facilities to host Islamic weddings or community events.
There is no dedicated space to receive and support Madeirans who embrace Islam.
There are no rooms or resources for lectures, courses, youth gatherings, or community programs.
The future of our Ummah in Madeira begins with a vision of peace, unity, and education. We aim to build the first private mosque on the island, a space of faith and learning, created to serve the Muslim community and promote understanding and respect among all residents of Madeira.
What Do We Aim to Achieve with This Construction?
With this project, we want to create a true center of faith, education, and community life, serving the Muslim population while bringing the Madeiran society closer to the true spirit of Islam.
The new mosque will be a modern and dignified space, with large prayer halls for men and women, offering comfort and serenity to all who come closer to Allah.
It will include teaching rooms dedicated to the Qur’an, Arabic, and Portuguese, promoting education, integration, and the strengthening of spiritual and social values.
It will also serve as a community center, hosting courses, events and cultural activities, strengthening the bonds between families and generations.
There will be a welcoming space for new Muslims and for those who wish to learn about Islam with respect and sincerity, demonstrating the true meaning of faith, peace, and mercy.
In addition, the project will feature gardens and outdoor areas open to the public, creating a serene and inviting environment where everyone, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, can experience the tranquility and harmony that Islam promotes.
Finally, family and children’s areas will be created, dedicated to education and interaction for future generations, based on values of respect, unity, and faith.
Alhamdulillah, with the help of Allah and the collective effort of the community, the dream of the new Mosque in Madeira has already begun to take shape.
Every stage has been guided by faith, transparency, and the commitment to create a space that truly serves the Ummah and the entire Madeiran society.
